Doncaster-Sheffield - 07/07/14

Airworthy Boeing 727s are not exactly widespread in Europe these days, so when news emerged  in early 2013 of a project to a) convert two airframes to carry out oil-spill dispersant spraying  and b) base the aircraft at Robin Hood Airport, there was perhaps understandable scepticism in certain quarters.

Happily, the plan has indeed come to fruition and the first of the 727s, G-OSRA, arrived at Doncaster-Sheffield  on July 7th to take up residence.  This former Federal Express machine (ex N217FE) is operated by T2 Aviation – an offshoot of 2Excel Aviation – and will be joined in due course by sister ship G-OSRB (ex N207FE).

The spray boom equipment is visible under the rear fuselage, and further information on the project can be found at:-  http://www.oilspillresponse.com/files/ROA2012%281%29.pdf
