Doncaster-Sheffield - 17/06/14

A varied day at Robin Hood.

Taxying to holding point 'Alpha 1' during the afternoon, Thomson Airways' Boeing 737-800 G-TAWH is waiting for clearance to depart to Alicante from runway 02

The 737 is having to hold until Canadair Regional Jet 850 G-RADY has landed and vacated the runway. This colourful business-jet, operated by TAG Aviation (UK), has flown from London Heathrow and is carrying the group 'Kings of Leon' for a gig at Sheffield Arena.

Arriving from Nottingham Tollerton shortly afterwards is the unmistakeable shape of a Diamond DA42 TwinStar, in this case G-OCCX, which will spend the next hour training at Robin Hood. The TwinStar is unusual amongst aircraft in that it is powered by two diesel engines, these being manufactured by Austrian company Thielert.

Into the evening now, and more training is being undertaken as Jet2's Boeing 737-300 G-CELF, arrives from its Leeds-Bradford base to spend an hour 'bashing the circuit' at Robin Hood.

Just before 21:30 and with the camera's ISO setting cranked up to1600 ASA, Boeing 747-400 freighter TC-ACH is caught about to touch down on 02. Operated by ACT Airlines, the aircraft wears 'my CARGO / Magma' titles, and will depart the following morning on a cargo flight.
