Hull Aero Club’s Beverley (Linley Hill) aerodrome is one of those places
that I’d long been aware of, but had never actually got round to
visiting. A chance to rectify this came when my wife and
I called in on the way back home after a trip to visit the coast at
Withernsea.
Linley Hill took some finding, not helped by an
incorrect postcode listing in my copy of Pooley’s Flight Guide, a Google
Maps app on my tablet that refused to recognise Linley Hill, insisting
instead that it was spelt ‘Linlyhill’, and a sign in the nearby village
of Leven that directed us down a mile-long dirt track. Despite these
niggles, however, we eventually found the airfield.
Although
there is a public viewing area on site, I called in at the clubhouse
anyway to check it was okay to take photographs; the duty flying
instructor was most helpful and said that although all the hangars were
closed, I could go airside as long as I wore a hi-viz vest and kept
clear of propellers.
There were only a few aircraft outside so I
was soon back in the clubhouse having a cold drink and a sticky bun at
the excellent refreshment bar there. All in all, a great little airfield
to visit and thanks to all the club members and staff I met for a great
welcome.
Thruster T600N G-MZHW and Cyclone Pegasus G-MCJL are two of the microlights based at Beverley.
Visiting from Wickenby was G-RVTN, an appropriately registered Van’s RV10.
Piper PA28 Warrior G-BDGM spent some time bashing the circuit before being joined by the club’s Cessna 152 G-BIDH.
Another couple of Cessnas on the field were C172 G-BTMR and C150 G-BAXV.
